Rosy Restyle

Not that I'm ready for fall, but here is a long coat I made out of a bed cover that I'd made last year...
I just cut it into a 60" square, rounded out the corners, cut two slits at twelve inches off center - and 18" down from the top.
I traced the sleeves of my favorite sweatshirt and added enough for the seam allowance.

It drapes much nicer than the picture shows, ,and it only took about four hours to make, and that's because I did all of the sewing by hand. I think with a machine it could be done in under two hours.

including the snap and the rose covering it.

I didn't finish off the edges because I like the way they curl.
Now if it would just cool off...

  5. I am interested in the fact that you sewed this by hand.

I know this is often easier than bothering with a machine.

But I also think that quite often clothes actually hang and drape better when they are hand sewn. I think it probably has something to do with the fabric itself and also the tension of a hand sewn seam.

Certainly when I have sewn dolls made from pure cotton poplin, I really think the shape of the face and legs and other shapely elements has been better with handsewn seams. They seem more flexible.

  6. I love this and can't believe you made it so quickly. It reminds me of a chic Spanish make of clothes called Desigual. Gorgeous!
