Frankencoat
Nellie's new coat -

I cut off the bottom of the coat,
cut the poncho in half...
fit it all together like a jigsaw puzzle,
added some ball fringe and bright buttons,
and finished it off with a happy girl...

Rosy Restyle
Not that I'm ready for fall, but here is a long coat I made out of a bed cover that I'd made last year...
I just cut it into a 60" square, rounded out the corners, cut two slits at twelve inches off center - and 18" down from the top.
I traced the sleeves of my favorite sweatshirt and added enough for the seam allowance.
It drapes much nicer than the picture shows, ,and it only took about four hours to make, and that's because I did all of the sewing by hand. I think with a machine it could be done in under two hours.
including the snap and the rose covering it.
I didn't finish off the edges because I like the way they curl.
Now if it would just cool off...

Curtains are heavy cotton and 36" long
I used one adult apron and one child's apron from a craft store as patterns,
just line them up at the bottom hem and trace, I didn't leave a seam allowance on the adult apron, I used quilt binding to go around all of the unfinished edges and to make the ties.
For the child's apron I folded over about a half inch around the armholes and across the top. I used quilt binding for the ties too. The dragonfly is a copy of a water color painting by a friend of mine, printed on canvas.
The pockets are made from dinner napkins, folded in half with the fold sewn along the bottom and the they are stitched up the sides. There are two more lines of stitching so there are three pockets. By folding the napkins you actually end up with six pockets on each apron.
They take a beating, can be machine washed and dried, they have been used for painting, cooking, gardening, and a number of messy projects for almost two years now. The pictures here are from today, so you can see how well they have held up.
The curtains and napkins themselves are a Waverly pattern that I bought almost ten years ago.

Opening Day at the Fair
Gabe and I spent yesterday at the State Fair selling water at our church's booth. The booth is tucked in a corner by the Tractor Pull area and the animal show rings.
It's away from the hustle and bustle of the food and craft vendors, and stages. and very far from the midway. To Gabe's great joy the only food vendor nearby was the FFA booth selling....PIE!
There was a lot of livestock, lots of cute babies, but my favorite are always the piglets.
The eight year old in me looks and thinks Wilbur...
Produce from a farm near my house, my favorite food stop all summer long.
Most of the food vendors have little booths like this...all painted and shaped differently. And all run by civic groups and churches as fundraisers.
And the food...who doesn't love fair food?
Not a single egg to be had...but lots of exotic poultry and bunnies galore. Bunnies for sale too!

The sheep barn, or as I like to think of it, the life time supply of sweater opportunity.
Tired and achy but very happy we where there until 10:30 that night, having had one the best opening days for our booth, too much pie, and lots of fun. Can't wait until next year!
